The Prime Minister consults with fishermen about opening borders

March 31, 2023  –WILLEMSTAD – Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas has met with Minister of Economic Development Ruisandro Cijntje about opening the borders between Curaçao and Venezuela. Representatives from KUP and KIPKO, two fishermen’s organizations, were present. This was announced by the prime minister in a press release.  

In addition to the representatives, experts from customs, economic affairs and general affairs were also present. They were able to express their concerns and comment on the current plans. The government hopes to keep prices low when people want to travel to and from Curaçao, making doing business more attractive.  

Pisas reports that the opening of the borders must be well organized and that the rules that apply must be considered. The feedback received by the president and representatives is analyzed and then discussed at a new meeting with those involved.
