The Plenipotentiary Ministers of Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten Attend Amsterdam Memorial Day

April 19, 2023 –AMSTERDAM – On May 4th, Plenipotentiary Ministers Juan Thijsen of Aruba, Carl Manuel of Curaçao, and Deputy Plenipotentiary Minister Richard Panneflek of Sint Maarten will lay a wreath at the National Memorial on Dam Square in Amsterdam.
They will do so as members of the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, after the Prime Minister, Defense Minister Ollongren, and State Secretary Van Ooijen of Health, Welfare, and Sport have laid their wreaths.
Every year, the Netherlands commemorates the victims of World War II and subsequent war situations and peacekeeping operations during the National Memorial on May 4th.
The National Memorial takes place at the National Monument on Dam Square in Amsterdam. The King and Queen lay a wreath on behalf of the entire Dutch population, and (grand)children lay wreaths on behalf of survivors for various groups of war victims.
Before the ceremony on Dam Square, there is a commemorative meeting at the Nieuwe Kerk. The Dutch NOS will broadcast the commemorative meeting at the Nieuwe Kerk and the National Memorial on NPO1 starting at 12:45 PM local time in Curaçao.
