The Coast Guard conducts sea patrol checks

August 18, 2023  –WILLEMSTAD – The Coast Guard will be conducting control patrols at sea in the coming period. The checks are primarily focused on valid ship documents and safety equipment on board the vessels. In the past weekends, the Coast Guard has been present at the most visited bays and beaches on the east and west sides of the island for these checks. During the patrols of the past weekends, a total of 12 fines were issued and a jet ski was seized. 

The control patrols are carried out in collaboration with the Harbor Safety Inspection and the Curaçao Police Force. During the upcoming checks, the Coast Guard will enforce strict measures and, if necessary, issue fines; in the worst-case scenario, the vessel will be seized. The Coast Guard urges captains to have their ship documents and safety equipment on board. 

The Coast Guard advises all boat owners to regularly maintain their boats. Make sure you have enough safety and rescue equipment on board, such as life jackets, flashlights, first aid kits, sufficient water, fire extinguishers, VHF radio, or a charged mobile phone.
