October 6, 2023 -A woman is now in police custody as the primary suspect in the case of Member of Parliament for Kingston Eastern and Port Royal, Phillip Paulwell’s missing daughter and her mother.
According to multiple reports, the suspect was taken to Half Way Tree Police Station in Kingston on Thursday evening. She is to be formally charged in short order.
Paulwell’s 10-month-old daughter Sarayah Paulwell and her mother, 27-year-old Toshyna Patterson, have been missing since early September.
The two were seemingly abducted from their home at Gilmore Drive, Kingston 20, on the morning of September 9 and have not been seen or heard from since.
Earlier this week, the Jamaica Constabulary Force said it was making progress in the case of the missing mother and daughter.
“The investigation is going well. We’ve done several lines of enquiry. We’ve used the resources that are available within the JCF … and I think in relation to the Paulwell matter, we’re making some strides,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Fitz Bailey at a media briefing.
Just last week during a sitting of the House of Representatives, Phillip Paulwell gave an update on the incident, saying that authorities were no closer to finding the missing mother and daughter.
He, however, thanked his colleagues and “all of Jamaica” who have reached out to him, with words of encouragement and support.
“Despite the fact that we are nowhere closer today than we were two weeks ago at finding my daughter and her mother, I do feel the prayers, and it’s prayers from hundreds and hundreds of Jamaicans that have reached out,” Paulwell said.
In a previous statement on social media, Paulwell said the current ordeal has been “very horrific.”
“I have dealt with many things in my life, but the disappearance of my daughter and her mother is by far the most difficult thing I have ever had to navigate,” said the former Cabinet minister.
“I am not concerned about addressing the various theories that have been circulating in this space, it is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. The singular mission for which I have any energy to spare is safe return of my daughter and her mother. I am praying God keeps them safe and leads us to find them before any harm comes their way. Again, if you know anything, anything at all please share it.”
