PNP accuses coalition partner and finance minister of deception and demands transparency
August 23, 2023 –WILLEMSTAD – The Partido Nashonal di Pueblo, PNP, is not pleased with the statements made by the Minister of Finance, Javier Silvania of the MFK party. According to PNP leader Ruthmilda Larmonie-Cecilia, the proposal to submit the budget later did not actually come up on the Council of Ministers’ agenda, as Silvania claims.
Larmonie-Cecilia states that Silvania’s suggestion that PNP ministers agreed to the delayed submission of the budget does not align with the truth.
She asserts that the Council of Ministers was not even aware of the postponement letter that Silvania sent to parliament. PNP now demands that Silvania makes public the advice sought from legal services and constitutional experts, considering his plea for complete transparency.
The opposition party PAR is also strongly against Silvania’s request to submit the draft budget for 2024 later and calls for an urgent meeting in the central committee to discuss this matter.
Silvania’s original request was based on reasons such as negotiations regarding COVID-19 loans and the Ennia issue. The current draft budget envisions a balanced budget that meets financial standards but does not yet account for ongoing negotiations.
Meanwhile, the “Draft National Ordinance to Establish the Budget of Curaçao for the Year 2024” is already with the Council of Advice.
