Passing of parliamentarian Amerigo Thodé

December 14, 2023  –WILLEMSTAD – The political landscape mourns the loss of Member of Parliament Amerigo Thodé, who peacefully passed away this morning. His health struggles, publicly disclosed on November 22, led to his hospitalization at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC), where he slipped into a coma.

While Thodé managed to emerge from the coma, his health condition prevented him from resuming his parliamentary duties. This morning, at the age of 73, Amerigo Thodé bid farewell to the political arena.

Born on July 27, 1950, Amerigo Constantino Maria Thodé assumed the role of President of the Parliament of Curaçao in November 2012, following the parliamentary elections on October 19, 2012. Regrettably, he resigned a few weeks later as the anticipated coalition of Pueblo Soberano, Partido MAN, and MFK failed to materialize.

His second term as Speaker of Parliament, from March 23, 2017, to May 10, 2017, was also cut short, as the PAR emerged victorious in the elections that year, resulting in William Millerson succeeding him.

In late 2015, Thodé faced legal challenges related to the alleged leaking of an official secret. This incident involved a sound recording made during a confidential Cft meeting in 2014. Following the 2021 elections, where his party secured victory, Thodé assumed the role of leader of the MFK faction.
