Ministry of Justice and Public Health sign protocol for plantation and livestock farming at SDKK prison

June 21, 2024  –WILLEMSTAD – On Thursday, June 20, 2024, Minister of Justice Mr. Shalten Hato and Prime Minister and Minister responsible for the Environment and Nature Mr. Gilmar Pisas signed a protocol to commence the project for plantation and livestock farming at the Curaçao Detention and Correction Center (SDKK). 

In the presence of clients from the Outdoor Project and Agriculture, SDKK staff, and invited guests, speeches were given by Acting Director Mr. Anthony Hasselmeijer, Acting Director of AVB Mr. Marshall Sambo, and Ministers Mr. Gilmar Pisas and Mr. Shalten Hato. 

The main goal of the cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and GMN is to collaborate on the development of agriculture and livestock farming. As part of this project, necessary funds have been allocated to carry out plantation activities using various modern techniques and to initiate the farming of different animals, including goats, cattle, and chickens, over the next five years. 

The ceremony concluded in a festive atmosphere, with the ministers planting the first seeds of some vegetables, feeding the animals, and symbolically plowing a part of the land.
