Minister Plenipotentiary Manuel faces further controversy

May 9, 2023  –THE HAGUE – Curaçao’s Minister Plenipotentiary Carls Manuel finds himself in another predicament as his private car has been seized by a bailiff from a garage in Willemstad.

The car in question was involved in an accident in 2021, just two months after Manuel had purchased it. Initially, the MFK politician claimed that there were issues with the brakes, but a thorough technical investigation disproved this claim. Despite the evidence, Manuel demanded a full refund, citing a loss of confidence in the vehicle. The garage offered him a more expensive alternative with a nominal additional cost, yet Manuel declined the offer and escalated the matter to court. Unfortunately, the court completely dismissed his story of faulty brakes as utterly unbelievable.

The court explicitly instructed Manuel to retrieve his car from the garage, but despite numerous requests, he has failed to do so up to this day. Moreover, he adamantly refuses to cover the storage fees. Consequently, the garage has taken legal action to have the car removed. On Saturday, this action was carried out under the supervision of a bailiff.

Since assuming the position of Minister Plenipotentiary, Manuel, who lacks significant political experience, has been embroiled in several controversies. His attempts to secure employment for four family members and friends at the Curaçao House, installation of surveillance cameras to monitor staff, and his clumsy performances in the Kingdom Council of Ministers have raised eyebrows and evoked amusement.
