Millions in cocaine surfaces on Trinidad’s shores

August 26, 2023  -In a significant find earlier this week, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) reported the washing ashore of cocaine in Mayaro, with a staggering estimated value of over TT$21 million.

Discovery at Guayaguayare, Mayaro

Reports are that upon receiving the information, the Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers swiftly converged on a specific location in Guayaguayare, Mayaro.

At the scene, the officers identified 36 packets filled with a white substance strongly resembling cocaine. Weighing in at 46 kilograms, the potential street value of this sizable drug haul is pegged at TT$21,373,440.

No one has been detained in connection with the find.

Thousands of illegal cigarettes seized

Meanwhile, 73,900 illicit cigarettes were taken off the local market after the Multi-Agency Task Force (MATF)executed an operation.

Reports are that the MATF officials carried out inspections of tobacco products and other goods on sale, for compliance with the Tobacco Control Act, Standards Act and for Health and Safety requirements.
