Man found deceased following residential fire

June 9, 2023  –WILLEMSTAD – Tragedy struck on Thursday as a man lost his life in a house fire. Rio Canario and Mundo Nobo firefighters responded to a distress call around noon regarding a partially wooden house engulfed in flames in Monte Carmelo. 

Despite the swift response from the fire department, the house was quickly deemed irreparable. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters conducted a search of the premises, discovering the lifeless body of a man. 

Preliminary examinations suggest that the deceased individual had a disability. The Curacao Police Force is urging the public to be vigilant and check on their family and friends, especially those with disabilities. In recent times, several fire incidents have claimed the lives of individuals with disabilities. 

The police have identified the victim but have not yet determined the cause of the fire, which is currently under investigation.
