HNLMS Groningen received a report from the Caribbean Coast Guard about a suspicious vessel in the Caribbean Sea. With support from the Coast Guard’s Dash-8 aircraft, the Groningen took action and tracked the suspicious go-fast boat throughout the night.

This led to a pursuit involving two interception boats, FRISC type, from Groningen. The go-fast boat attempted to change course to escape the authorities.

During the chase, the smugglers jettisoned fuel drums and drug packages overboard to increase their speed. After a lengthy pursuit, the suspect’s go-fast boat managed to evade capture. However, during the subsequent search operation, more than 50 packages containing over 1600 kilograms of cocaine were retrieved from the sea.

The contraband was confiscated and handed over to the Curaçao Police Force, where it was promptly destroyed.
