Gasoline prices will definitely increase significantly this week

May 3, 2023  –WILLEMSTAD – The price of gasoline will increase by either 16 or 29 cents per liter this week. The decision will be made today in the Council of Ministers. 

The height of the price increase depends on the scenario the government follows. Either the scenario in which all restrictions are lifted and everything returns to normal, in which case the price will increase by 29 cents. Or the scenario in which the sales tax is not included in the wholesale price, in which case the price of a liter of gasoline will increase by 16 cents. 

Last year, the government intervened when fuel prices rose significantly due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. Certain components of the prices were lowered and Curoil financed a part of it. 

Minister of Economy Ruishandro Cijntje said that he is in favor of a return to the old situation. In that case, the price will increase by 29 cents per liter this week and will reach 2.48 guilders.
