November 21, 2023  -Philipsburg – President Stuart Johnson of the Windward Islands Teachers Union (WITU) issues a resolute statement emphasizing the Union’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and protecting the democratic rights of its members.

At the core of WITU’s principles is the unwavering belief in the individual freedom of its members to support any political party of their choice. President Johnson asserts, “We are an inclusive Union, and we respect the individual choices of all our members. Diversity of political affiliations within our Union is a testament to the democratic values we uphold.”
WITU proudly acknowledges that its membership is represented on a cross-section of boards and political parties, exercising their democratic rights as responsible members of society.
President Johnson highlights the importance of mutual respect, stating, “In society, many of us have different responsibilities, and persons must learn to respect that and separate it accordingly.”
The Union firmly condemns any sensationalized and false political tactics that could interfere with the proper handling of the workers of St. Maarten.
President Johnson underscores the critical need to safeguard labor rights, emphasizing that unions must be allowed to represent their membership without intimidation.
“In these challenging times, it is imperative that the rights of workers are upheld and protected. Unions play a vital role in ensuring fair treatment and representation for their members,” President Johnson affirms.
