Delayed response to Amnesty report
April 11, 2023 –THE HAGUE – State Secretary for Kingdom Relations Alexandra van Huffelen will respond to the Amnesty report no later than mid-May. The State Secretary says she needs more time. She wants to arrive at a joint response together with the Ministry of Justice and Security. She writes this in a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives.
On February 23, the Kingdom Relations Committee asked Van Huffelen for a government response to the report entitled ‘Curaçao, little improvement in the protection of Venezuelans’. In the report, the human rights organization states that the situation of Venezuelans seeking protection in Curaçao has not improved substantially since 2021.
