May 15, 2021 WILLEMSTAD - The government has reprimanded hotel organization CHATA. The beach may only be visited between 4:30 am and 9:00 am and 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm. After discussions with the government, CHATA drew a different conclusion and sent a message through social media that everyone can go to the beach all day.
CHATA director Maria-Helena Seferina-Rojas reacts disappointed to the government's message and finds the correction unjustified. "The decision not yet to release the beaches is at odds with the ministerial decision," Seferina-Rojas indicated.
According to Seferina-Rojas, the point is that the lockdown has been lifted and there is, therefore, no prohibition on being on the beach. "Nor is there a ban on being on the street," says the director of CHATA.
"Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Economic Development Xavier Prens and Dr. Izzy Gerstenbluth have confirmed during discussions that they will clarify this point and 'fix' it, because the law speaks for itself," says Seferina-Rojas .
When that confirmation was not forthcoming, CHATA decided to come out with a press release and state that beaches are open to the public during the day.
The government now says that this is not correct. "Article 11, paragraph 3 of the Temporary Regulation on measures of an emergency Covid-19 pandemic states that people are only allowed to visit the beach during the specified times," said a press release
