September 12, 2023 -On a Positive Note, is a breast cancer awareness presentation by keynote speaker Dr. Chobanyan, an Oncologist and a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC). Throughout her career, Dr. Chobanyan has continuously engaged in community outreach, which includes providing healthcare in rural and underserved communities in Armenia. While serving at AUA, she organized and presented community Health Fairs and Annual Breast Cancer Screening, which grew in popularity and served more than 400 residents annually. On St. Maarten, she launched the Breast Abnormalities Research Project in 2017. The Lion’s Club and Breast Friends organizations of Antigua gave recognition of her partnership and dedication to serving the local community. She continues to serve as Chief Medical Advisor to organizations in Europe and the United States.
The event, which is free, is hosted by the Positive and Elektralyets Foundations in collaboration with the Immanuel Church. On a Positive Note, will be held at the Immanuel Church in Madame Estate, Dominica Road 10, opposite the entrance of the former St. Maarten Zoo, on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 7pm.
The theme for this event is the prevalence or incidence of breast cancer in 2023 and the modifiable breast cancer risk factors. Participants will receive free breast cancer awareness literature and a list of opportunities for a free screening.
The foundations are inviting all women 18 years and older to attend on a Positive Note so that they can be informed on several factors that can influence the prevalence of breast cancer and the modifiable risk factors that individuals can work on to reduce their risk of developing breast cancer.
